The Ultimate Father's Day BBQ Guide

The Father’s Day BBQ Starts Here

Dad doesn’t need another pair of socks. Give him a reason to fire up the BBQ instead.

From quality cuts and easy sides to sauces, breads and something sweet afterwards, Thornleigh Marketplace has the ingredients to turn a regular Sunday into a proper Father’s Day feast. And if you’d rather spend less time in the kitchen, there are a few shortcuts worth knowing about too.

Start With the Main Event

The part Dad will actually be excited about.

Head to Prime Valley Cuts for the hero of the spread. Pick up premium steaks, beef cuts, sausages or other BBQ-ready meats, with plenty of choice if Dad has a particular favourite.

BBQ ideas to look for:

  • Rib-eye or scotch fillet for the steak Dad

  • Beef sausages for an easy crowd-pleaser

  • Lamb or chicken cuts for something different

  • Marinated meats for maximum flavour with minimal effort

Prime Valley Cuts is known for its wide selection of meats, different cuts and recipe inspiration, so it’s a good place to start if you’re not quite sure what to put on the grill.

Build the Plate Around It

Because no great BBQ is just meat on a plate.

Pop into Woolworths for the bits that turn the BBQ into a full spread. Think fresh bread and rolls, salad kits, coleslaw, potatoes, corn, chips and dips, plus the sauces and condiments Dad reaches for every time.

Easy additions:

  • Burger buns or crusty bread

  • Coleslaw or fresh salad

  • Corn and potatoes for the grill

  • Chips and dips for pre-BBQ snacking

  • BBQ sauce, mustard and other condiments

The trick is to mix a few easy-prep sides with one or two BBQ favourites, so you get a generous table without spending the whole day cooking.

Don't Feel Like Cooking Everything?

There's no rule saying Dad's BBQ has to involve hours in the kitchen.

Make it a little easier with a few ready-to-share extras from Ooshman. Their pizzas and shareable menu options can add another crowd-pleaser to the table — particularly handy if you're feeding a bigger group or have a few different appetites to please.

And Then There's Dessert

Finish the feast with something from The Cheesecake Shop. Go for a cheesecake, cake or shareable sweet treat and give everyone something to look forward to after the last sausage comes off the grill.

One last thing: don't forget Dad's drink.

Grab whatever suits the table, get the BBQ going and let Dad take over the tongs. By the way, you can secure the drinks at Dan Murphy’s!

Father’s Day is Sunday 6 September. This year, skip the complicated plans and give him the kind of day he'll actually want to repeat.
