September’s hot new “can-do” drinks with Dan Murphy’s

NEW, NOW, NEXT: September’s hot new can-do drinks

Our fave new premixed and canned beverages are here for your perusal. Trad living is all well and good – i.e. making everything from scratch for some reason – but have you had a drink that’s already been mixed and canned for you? Premixed drinks, or as the Yanks call ’em RTDs (ready to drink), are all the rage right now. Why? Could be because the loudest parts of the world have been in the midst of their summer holidays drinking cans and having a grand old “Brat” time. Or it could be as simple as they’re just delish bevvos. Probably a combo of both. Jump on the trendy new-and-now cans of nearly summer with our fave new additions to the Dan Murphy’s family.

1. Sub Zero Alcoholic Cola

How good is cola? How good’s zero-sugar cola? How good is a hard zero-sugar cola? Extra extra good we reckon. Say hello to our newest RTD to hit Dan Murphy’s shelves – Sub Zero Alcoholic Cola. Sweet but not sugary, this vodka-cola is the perfect grab-and-go can. And best of all? It’s a definite crowd-pleaser. We mean, come on, who doesn’t love a zippy little can of cola? Drink it straight out of the can or even add a cheeky little slice of lime or lemon for some acidity and bingo bango, you’ve got yourself a cocktail.

Where to take it: As we said, this can be a bit of a crowd-pleaser, so take it where there will be a big group of people to share it around. A sporting match, a birthday party, a gathering or even a mate’s daggy DJ set. We promise it’ll go off.

2. Brookvale Union Vodka Lemonade

We said it once, we’ll say it again: lemon – specifically lemonade-ish flavoured drinks – are in. And there’s nothing better than a good old-fashioned hard lemonade. Tart, zippy, citrusy and with the addition of a nice smooth vodka? You’re joking, how good? Another delicious new addition to Dan Murphy’s line-up and one we are stoked to have is this Brookvale Union Vodka Lemonade. Drink it super-duper cold over ice, or straight out of a chilly can.

Where to take it: This can say to us, warm spot in the sun, on a gingham rug with a bunch of mates, trying to fend off Rupert the golden retriever who has beelined for the brie.

3. Box Alcoholic Juice – Apple & Guava

Australian, vegan, low in sugar, low in gluten and launched by our very own G Flip? Could it get any better? Well, yes because it tastes delicious. The wonderful tropical flavours of guava mesh with the apple and subtle alcohol to create a very familiar but fun new drink in this Box Alcoholic Juice, made in collaboration with the excellent Moon Dog brewery. Make sure you give it a “flip” (see what we did there), to get the best out of the real juice flavours.

Where to take it: In honour of G Flip’s wife, Chrishell Stause (Selling Sunset) we reckon these cans are best taken to a housewarming. Real estate vibes, ya know?

4. Espolon Sparkling Margarita

When it comes to Margs, we’re very picky here at Dan’s. Having said that, the Espolon Sparkling Margarita is damn good. A nice little hit of tequila, some great big lime flavours and a good bit of effervescence make this a very enjoyable, very sippable can. Keep it nice and cold, or chuck it over some lovely big ice cubes with a good slice and squeeze of lime, and salud! The lazy fizzy Marg.

Where to take it: It's not funny here, but if there’s a local Mexican joint that does BYO, then these are a perfect, no-fuss no-muss way of bringing Margs to a restaurant. Otherwise, crack open the old Old El Paso taco kit and the packet “salsa” at home.

5. Billson’s Vodka & Sour Peach

Peachy Keen and can-do is Billson’s latest, exciting premixed beverage, the aptly named Billson’s Vodka & Sour Peach. It’s a scrumptious mix of triple-distilled spring water vodka, a punchy yet classic soda and a good helping of sour peach. So, if you love all those things, we recommend hopping off to a Dan Murphy’s near you.

Where to take it: A listening party. There are no intrusive flavours in this can, so it makes a perfect companion to an album-listening party. Sabrina Carpenter’s new album just came out.

6. Kirin Hyoketsu Variety Pack Cans

What do they say about variety? Oh yeah, it’s the spice of life. And old Kirin Hyoketsu knows this. We’re talking lemon, we’re talking peach, pineapple even. Hello! With a wonderful mix of vodka, soda and frozen natural fruit juice, this Kirin Hyoketsu Variety pack is crisp, fresh and dripping in natural-fruit flavour goodness across all three of those flavours. Also, there are less than 116 calories per can! Win-win.

Where to take it: Potluck, baby. The food is a mixed bag and so is the alcohol. We love a cheeky unplanned theme.
